Visitors to Parksville’s Big Splash Entertainment Weekend down in Parksville Community Park will enjoy a little taste of the ‘60s this Saturday afternoon.
Victoria’s Younger Than Yesterday is a five-piece band that plays ‘60s favorites from The Beatles, The Monkees, The Beach Boys, CCR and more, and they’ll come dressed to impress.
“We wear black pants, white shirt, black vests, black ties and wigs…we kind of look like early Beatles,” said Dan Politano, founder and bass player with the group.
Politano, whose Dad Bryan is also in the group, said The Beatles are the reason he started playing music in the first place.
He put out an ad to form a Beatles band but when he got together with another member they found it hard to stick with just one group.
“We got together and just started thinking ‘Oh… there’s just so many cool ‘60s songs,” he said.
The band has had a good reception in Victoria over the past couple of years, and are currently busy playing gigs every weekend.
The group played at The British Heritage Festival in Nanaimo last month but have yet to play in the Oceanside area.
Dan said they’re excited to be playing in Parksville at what is supposed to be a packed, outdoor venue.
Younger Than Yesterday will play at the Quality Foods Canadian Open Sand Sculpting Competition and Exhibition’s Big Splash Entertainment Weekend on Saturday, August 6 from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
The event will happen at the kite field in Parksville’s Community Park.
