The North Island College Foundation, together with host-sponsor Coastal Black Estate Winery & Meadery and with the support of the North Vancouver Island Chefs’ Association, will present the first annual culinary festival Flavour: The North Island’s Gourmet Picnic on Sunday.
This foodie-focused and family-friendly event will take place during harvest time on an immaculate working farm and award winning estate winery. Chefs from some of the finest restaurants in the region, as well as some special guest chefs from out-of-region, together with our celebrated farmers, producers, brewers and vintners will gather to celebrate our local gourmet culture.
Guests will sample a delicious array of food and beverage offerings, while enjoying lively entertainment by Anela Kahiamoe and James & Johnson. Children and adults alike will enjoy the hands-on activities.
This event was conceptualized by the Foundation team to showcase the region’s epicurean bounty while supporting the local hospitality and agriculture sectors.
Proceeds from the event will be directed towards scholarships and bursaries for the college’s Culinary Arts students, the North Vancouver Island Chefs’ Association to support continuing education opportunities, and the Farmers’ Market Association. Flavour promises to be a highlight on Vancouver Island’s roster of culinary events. With over 45 exhibitors confirmed, guests will be treated to an afternoon of gastronomic delights. For those not wishing to drive, transportation to the event will be available from both NIC’s Campbell River and Comox Valley campuses. Tickets must be purchased by Sept. 15. To purchase tickets, visit www.gourmetpicnic.ca or call 250-334-5000 (extensions 4039 or 4267).
