Canadian music legend Alfie Zappacosta made a stop in Golden last week for his son’s wedding and to catch up with family and friends.
The wedding, hosted at Eagle’s Eye Restaurant on top of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, was a beautiful ceremony despite smoky skies and ash falling. The location was chosen because of his son’s interest in outdoor activities like biking and snowboarding. They had visited Kicking Horse before, and decided the venue would be perfect for the wedding.
“He’s an avid snowboarder. His buddies are quite the outdoorsmen, at least they think they are,” Zappacosta said. “The unfortunate thing is the fires and everything. It didn’t really affect anything, so long as you don’t mind ash on your white dress. It really made a mess of my white dress.”
One of the greatest parts of Zappacosta’s visit to Golden was getting to see all of the family he hasn’t seen in a long time.
They enjoyed the wedding and spent the rest of the weekend meeting up and enjoying activities around town.
“It’s the first time in many, many years we had a great family reunion. We had my sisters and all their kids, my nieces and nephews, and all their kids. Quite literally, some of my niece’s children I hadn’t seen in such a long time that I would have never recognized them walking down the street. They’re teenagers now,” he said. “There’s the age-old cliches, they were only this high when I saw them, and now they’re great big things.”
At the wedding, Zappacosta sang one song for his family. His son had chosen Next To You, and it was written “quite a while ago.”
“It went off without a hitch. It’s not my first rodeo. We just spent a little bit of time setting up,” Zappacosta said.
