Jonquil Hallgate has been recognized for her volunteer work with the poor and homeless in Whalley at the Vancouver Lawn Tennis Club.
Hallgate received the Woman of Wisdom and Passion Award from The B.C. chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma (DKG) Society International.
Hallgate manages the Surrey Urban Mission, coordinating the centre on a full-time volunteer basis.
Hallgate has been active as a volunteer since the age of 15, working with sports groups, Special Olympics, school programs, The Homelessness Intervention Project, Calgary Folk Music Festival, First Night Festivals, Alberta Winter and Summer Games, Holland Park Olympic Celebrations, Surrey Homelessness and Housing Task Force, GVRD Extreme Weather Task Group, the Surrey Board of Trade Social Policy Team and the Faith and Society Committee of the Lutheran Church.
Hallgate holds a degree in recreation therapy, a diploma in management, and certificates in management in volunteer services and in high performance leadership.
Her experience includes developing and managing programs for people living with developmental disabilities, managing group homes and working in school settings with children and teens in a special education setting.
DKG is a professional and philanthropic society of women educators in 16 countries.
