Every summer the Library has a summer reading program on for the youth.  This year they also have one for the adults.

The adult program is open to adults age 18 and over who are members of the Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) Library System.  If you aren’t already a member, why not join?

Pick up a copy of the Adult Summer Reading Program form at the Barriere Library – it will explain how it works and lists all the types of books you will need to read by the end of August.

There are 18 different categories and you need to read one book that covers each.  For each book that you read, you get an entry for a draw.

Some of the categories are: a book published in the decade that you were born (for me – the 1960’s); a book out of your comfort zone (for me – horror); a book that has more than 500 pages (the tricky part on this one is finding a novel with more than 500 pages); and an award winning book (the librarian can help you with that one).

The prizes?  There will be one grand prize winner who will receive a $100 Chapter’s gift card, and five runners-up who will each take home a $50 gift card.

It is a great opportunity to read something new, that you otherwise might not consider.

If you are artistic, you can earn a few more entries for colouring in the form before handing it in.

Have fun this summer, read something new and interesting and maybe even win a prize at the same time.  But don’t wait too long; all completed booklets must be turned in by 5 p.m. on Sept. 9.
