Agility dogs bring home ribbons

Members of the Dog 'o' Pogo Agility Group enjoyed success at the national championships in August

Four members of Vernon’s Dog ‘o’ Pogo Agility Group have brought home ribbons from the Agility Association of Canada’s National Championships in Nanaimo last month.

“In order to comete at the nationals, the dogs and handlers had to qualify at a regional qualifier in June,” said club member Sietske Rijnen, who competed with her dog, Macha. “As the photo shows, the group was very successful and put Vernon on the map.”

The dogs all ran the same courses but competed in different divisions according to height and age. Ribbons were awarded for individual placements in the six events and all the dogs and their handlers won ribbons. Aggregate points from the six events were calculated to determine final championship placements.

Dog ‘o’ Pogo hosts a trial in Lavington Sept. 22 and 23, where these dogs and handlers will once again be taking part.

As well, the club is holding beginner agility classes this fall.
