Painters will be invading Fadear Park in Barriere, on Sept. 10 and 11. Some of the area’s most talented painters will bring their paint boxes and easels to the park to practice their art in the open air,
Plein air painting developed in France in the mid 19th century and is becoming increasingly popular. Plein air artists seek the quality of natural light and atmosphere outdoors.
International Plein Air Painters (IPAP), who has members who reside throughout the World, is the blanket organization for individual plein air groups and was created for the sole purpose of advancing the execution and enjoyment of plein air painting without limitations of borders or regions. IPAP is the organization that started the World Wide Paint Outs 14 years ago.
While this is the 14th Annual World Wide Paint Out, it is the fourth year for Barriere.
Artists from throughout the North Thompson Valley are encouraged to come out and take part. In the last few years, we have had artists from the North Thompson Arts Council and the Yellowhead Artists Co-Op attend.
Both days there will be artists on hand between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Those who wish to take part can come for an hour or two, or all day if they wish. Just bring snacks and/or a lunch, your own chair and easel, and your paints. There will be free coffee available.
Of course, “paints” can also mean charcoal pencils, oil pastels, crayons, or whatever your preferred medium is.
The public will be able to join in the fun by watching individual artists work and moving from painter to painter throughout the day. There will be some supplies available for any kids that may drop by (paper and crayons, etc.) to try their hand.
Please note that this event will happen – rain or shine! If the weather is nice, pick any spot you like in the park. If the weather is inclement, then we will be up on the Bandshell stage, under that nice roof.
