Artwork gets revved up

Surrey resident Alex Boiesan has designed the winning poster for the 2013 Vancouver International Auto Show.

His poster, “Evolution,” features the dramatic progression of the automobile as part of the fabric of the city.

“I wanted to communicate to viewers the richness of history and technological innovation that can be found at the Vancouver Auto Show,” said Boiesan (photo).

“The imagery in my design was created to convey the progression of automotive design through different cultural eras.”

Boiesan, originally from Romania, is an artist, writer, illustrator and graphic designer. In May, he will graduate from Emily Carr University with a bachelor degree in visual arts.

Every year, the auto show holds a poster competition and invites students to submit a design they think best reflects the changing face of the auto industry.

The winner receives $1,200.

Vancouver International Auto Show executive director Paul McGeachie said the judging team was excited by Boiesan’s design, which was different from past years’ posters that focused more on the facility.

“The judges felt that Alex’s design captured the diversity of the auto industry and the history of the auto show,” said McGeachie. “The design is also striking in and of itself and one that invites repeated viewings.”

The Vancouver International Auto Show takes place March 26-31 at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
