AUXILIARY NOTES: Busy year ahead

First fundraiser for hospital group coming up on Oct. 17

The auxiliary is gearing up for another busy year.

The first fundraiser of the year – Oct. 17 at St. Marks Church on 20 Avenue – is a bridge luncheon put on by Les Papillions.

Tickets cost $20 and can be purchased from Jean at 604-535-3507. This event is always well-attended and enjoyed by all.

Our superfluity shop on Prospect Avenue continues to have wonderful items for sale.

We sell not only clothes and housewares but also small items of furniture, which is popular with our customers. We have a boutique where we have designer clothing and special items.

The superfluity shop is always ready to welcome new volunteers, who can offer us a few hours of work each week.

Many of our volunteers have been with us for many years. It is a great way to meet people and help the community at the same time.

We need strong men to help with the heavy things, and it is guaranteed to be a fun job.

At present, we are looking for a volunteer with experience with jewelry. We sell everything from costume jewelry to classic pearls. We are looking for a volunteer with this interest who would be able to also do some small repairs.

There are no two days that are the same at the superfluity shop, as we never know what products will be donated for us to sell.

Our gift shop at the hospital is selling lots of clothing these days, as well as a great selection of bags, purses, hand-knitted baby clothes and blankets, and many more gift items.

We receive new magazines each week, which are popular with hospital visitors. There are lots of items for children, including puzzle books, sweets and a selection of stuffed animals..

Flower Power, an auxiliary group, stocks the flower fridge with new floral arrangements each week. These always make a great gift for any occasion. Flower arrangements may be ordered in advance at the gift shop.

All the money that we make from our shops and fundraisers goes toward hospital equipment and things for patient comforts. Without the generosity of our community, we would not be able to donate these things, which make a huge difference in the quality of care that Peace Arch Hospital is able to provide.

It is only because we have people who are willing to volunteer that we can make a difference in our hospital. We welcome everyone who would like to spend some time giving back to the community, and we guarantee that you will meet some great people and make a difference.
