The South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation successfully reached and exceeded their goal to raise $446,560 for the Christmas campaign for cancer diagnostic equipment at Penticton Regional Hospital.
The board of directors and medical staff would like to thank the members of Summerland Health Care Auxiliary for their donation of $120,000 to cover the cost of the three colonoscopes for the endoscopy department.
Colonoscopes help diagnose a variety of pre-cancerous and colon cancers which is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in Canada.
Janice Perrino, executive director for the medical foundation said the Summerland Health Care Auxiliary gift was the single largest donation received during the campaign.
“The Summerland Health Care Auxiliary continues to provide leading support for health care services in the region,” she said. “Without them, health care would be very different. We are truly blessed to have them in our community.”
The South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation thanks everyone who made a donation including the auxiliaries, the many businesses, service groups and the more than one thousand individuals who made personal donations.
Medical staff have been told they can order the equipment they requested. This includes five items for the laboratory, five for the endoscopy department, three for the surgical department and two for the digital imaging.
