B.C. permit numbers increase

May was a strong month for non-residential building permits issued in B.C. according to May building permit numbers released today by Statistics Canada.

“Commercial and industrial construction permits are a definite sign of confidence in the future. Investments in these kinds of projects boosts our entire economy and helps drive job creation,” said Philip Hochstein, president of the Independent Contractors and Businesses Association of B.C.

Non-residential permits issued in May, 2011 were worth $348.9 million – up 45.8 per cent compared to April, and up 33.2 per cent over the same month last year.
