Surrey’s Ada Kim, a fourth-year undergraduate at UBC has been awarded one of four studentships for breast cancer research.
The studentship program is funded by the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation – BC/Yukon Region and the BC Cancer Foundation, and provided through the BC Cancer Agency (BCCA).
Thirteen research projects will be conducted until Aug 31, 2012 at BCCA sites across the province, ranging in focus across several types of cancer.
The CBCF-funded research is specific to the area of breast cancer, and may cover any discipline of breast cancer research, including clinical, translational, basic, behavioural or population research areas.
“We were extremely impressed with the calibre of applicants this year,” said Wendy Slavin, CEO, CBCF -BC/Yukon Region. “These students are part of the promising future of breast cancer research in the province and CBCF is honoured to provide them with this opportunity for hands-on research.”
Each year, BCCA makes available up to fifteen summer research studentships to support senior undergraduate university students and/or junior medical or dental students studying in B.C.
Studentships are available for a period between eight and 16 weeks with students receiving $375 per week up to a maximum of $6,000.
Applications for 2013 studentships will be available online this winter with the recipients announced in February/March 2013.
