A reminder that Seedy Saturday is coming up on Saturday, March 8, and it promises to be bigger and better than ever.
Thanks to Jon and Sher Alcock, with Sunshine Farms, who’s brainchild several years ago became a major event each spring welcomed by gardeners and farmers up and down our valley and beyond.
This year will be the first time the Master Gardeners have taken over the management of the event.
The Alcocks have been very helpful with the changing of the guard making it a smooth transition.
So what is Seedy Saturday all about? It’s a day when gardeners can come together and share information, expertise, experiences and of course purchase seeds for spring planting.
The seeds available for the most part are of varieties which are seldom if ever found on the seed racks in garden centres or even catalogues.
Usually locally grown and clean, you can be assured of good quality and viability.
My pal Ken Salvail, from Ken’s Horticultural Services in Lake Country, will be on location for the first part and he will be calling in to join me on my weekly garden show from 8 to 10 a.m.
Seedy Saturday will be held at Okanagan College, 1000 KLO Rd.
More than 30 vendors and groups will be at the event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 8.

I had a nice group of enthusiastic gardeners attend my session on starting plants from seeds and cuttings at Bylands Garden Centre last Saturday.
I can tell people are getting ready for the spring gardening season as there is nothing better than growing your own plants.
My next session will be on March 1 when I will be conduct a workshop on pruning. Come join me at 1:30 p.m. and take the mystery out of this necessary gardening activity.
