Editor’s note: Every year, the Royal Canadian Legion Vernon Branch 25 asks an elementary school in Vernon to write a poem for Remembrance Day. This year’s poem was written by BX elementary school students Jessee Harman and Ryleigh McKenzie, who read it at the Nov. 11 service at Kal Tire Place.
Remember Me
Just remember them
Duty called and they went to war
though they had never fired a gun before
they paid the price for our new day
as all their thoughts had gone away
They were told to fire
and no surrender
But now that is all over
now they lie under ground with crosses over their hearts
Beneath the soil, like a dart
Ruff ground they crawled
with bad source of food and water
They fought and fell and now move no more
But just remember they have now past but will always be remembered because they fought until they couldn’t fight no more.
