Special to The Morning Star
“Okanagan Moments” is the theme of the 2015 calendar launched by Grannies à Gogo: the Vernon – South Africa Connection.
The calendar is the product of a recent photo contest which saw professional photographer Brenda Hala judge an awe-inspiring array of entries, all of which captured moments that make the North Okanagan a great place to live.
The grand prize winner is Konnie Kranenburg with her breathtaking entry, Sunset on Kin Beach, featured on the cover. Second prize went to Carol Schroeder with Friends! Pet Me Too! and third prize to Sue Harnett with Spring in the Okanagan. In all, 13 winners were selected to represent the 13-month calendar.
Printed by Get Smarter Copies on high quality calendar stock, each photo measures eight inches by 10 inches with every month featuring plenty of room to note the events of each day. The beautiful calendar, with a centre coil, measures 17 by 11 when opened and is an easy-to-mail gift. Calendars can be purchased for $15 and include a mailing envelope. They will be available at the Trinity United Church Tea on Saturday and at the Festival of Crafts, Nov. 21 and 22 at Kal Tire Place. Alternately, e-mail granniesagogo@gmail.com with an order.
“All net proceeds from calendar sales support AIDS-bereaved gogos (grandmothers) raising their orphaned grandchildren in Sabie, South Africa,” said calendar chairperson Sue Harnett. “At $15 they make beautiful gifts to family and friends as a daily reminder of our magnificently diverse North Okanagan.”
