Camping in Strathcona Park

The tap, tap, tapping on tent pegs, the hiss of a backpacking stove, the stretching of nylon fabric over a shock-corded aluminum frame – it’s all a precurser to an idyllic night in the mountains near Campbell River.

Camping in the Campbell River area ranges from multi-day backcountry adventures to pulling up to a peaceful lake in your car. Whatever your pleasure, the Campbell River area provides it.

A great place to start is the many provincial parks in the area. From the majestic Strathcona Provincial Park to the tiny Morton Lake Provincial Park, camping is king in this region.

And with BC Parks, you can make a reservation online at www.discovercamping.ca or by calling Discover Camping toll free (1-800-689-9025). You can reserve up to three months in advance or two days prior.

And not to worry, if you’re travelling a little more luxuriously, many local parks (including wilderness ones like Strathcona) accommodate RVs as well.

In addition to provincial parks, there are many Forest Service Recreational Sites which offer basic camping services (outhouses, picnic tables and fire rings) in places as nice as any provincial park for either less per night cost or free.
