Local 12-year-old Cody Turner was presented on May 7 with a juvenile diabetes jersey worn and signed by members of the Chase Heat.
Coach Brad Fox and team member Ethan Kalugin were on hand to present the jersey. The jersey is a special edition from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund Challenge between the Chase Heat and the Kamloops Storm that took place in February.
The community of Chase once again rose to the challenge and beat Kamloops in the fundraising. Chase Heat and the community, led by Angie McLaren and her volunteer group, raised more than $1,400. These funds are important to children like Cody to help in research for juvenile diabetes.
Cody was in the hospital being diagnosed with juvenile diabetes when the games were being played. This year’s challenge hit close to home in Chase, which is a proud community that helps young people like Cody each year. Cody was also presented with a week of free hockey school this summer by Fox Hockey.
