The spirit of giving is still alive and well in Summerland as many gifts were donated through the annual Operation Santa Claus drive.

The gifts were dropped off at the Summerland Review and will be distributed through the Summerland Food Bank when recipients pick up their Christmas hampers.

Gifts were packed on Friday by staff from McBain Insurance.

Keith Quesnelle, manager of McBain Insurance, said the number of gifts was quite a bit higher than the 150 collected last year.

The gift drive has been an annual event since 1967.

In the past, gifts were collected and sent to three Arctic communities, but in 2009, the initiative changed its focus and the presents collected now stay in the community.
