The City of Duncan shared a little love on its Facebook page last week, crediting its employees with a bright idea.
"It’s time for the annual downtown power-wash cleanup which typically involves hosing down all the sidewalks in the core as well as City Square. Due to the lack of rain, coupled with the dust from the Canada Avenue/Ingram Street upgrades, the downtown core is pretty dirty," officials shared.
"In an effort to conserve water, resourceful City crew members came up with an alternate plan. Rather than use a deluge gun which is a large volume water hose, they experimented with great results doing a pre-washing blow with the leaf blower," they said. "By doing this in advance and effectively removing all the loose material first, they are able to then follow with only the low volume pressure wash guns reducing water consumption from 2,000 gallons per day down to less than 500, a 75 per cent savings. Kudos to those staff who make the effort to try and come up with different ways that we can conserve water."
