On Monday, December 14 at 9:30 p.m., the Canadian Pacific (CP) Holiday Train, covered in over 200,000 lights, will be pulling into Golden this Christmas, bringing holiday cheer and live entertainment. Mike LoVecchio, Senior Manager of Media Relations for CP says, “Fifteen minutes before the train rolls into town there will be a flurry of activity as organizers prepare the stage car.” Then, at 9:30, the show start. “Afterwards, there may even by a visit from jolly St. Nick – he tries to make as many events as he can.” According to a recent press release, at each stop, CP provides a brightly decorated train, a box car converted into a stage, great musical talent and a corporate contribution to the local food banks. The community in turn rallies together at the free event – donating food and funds, all of which stays in their community. Food Banks Canada and its members, affiliate members and respective agencies serve approximately 85 per cent of food bank clients in Canada and recently confirmed that 20 per cent more Canadians are enlisting the help of food banks compared to a year ago. The headlining musical talents on the Holiday Train this year are alternative rock band, The Odds and blues-rocker Schaun Verrault, from Wide Mouth Mason. Over 70 Canadian cities, towns and villages will experience the Holiday Train. It starts in Montreal on Saturday, November 28, and concludes in Port Moody on Friday, December 18. Last year the Holiday Train raised more than $500,000 and 250,000 lbs of food. This year the need is even greater.
