2013 Walk with your Doc in Sooke.

Get a move on: Take steps to better health

Lunch time walk with Sooke doctors, everyone welcome

As the weather turns pleasant, there is nothing better than taking a walk, breathing in the fresh spring air and getting a little exercise.

On May 5, seven doctors in Sooke will be leading the annual walking event, Walk With Your Doc, in the downtown core. The annual event in B.C. celebrators the World health Organization’s Move for Health Day.

The walk is not limited to patients, it’s for anyone who wants to take a walk from the gazebo at Evergreen Centre to Ed Macgregor Park and back, a distance of approximately 2.9 kms.

In addition to helping you lose weight, walking increases energy, quality of sleep and lowers stress and blood pressure. It’s also a good exercise if one has diabetes or hypertension. It’s all good – in other words.

“You don’t have to have a family physician in Sooke to participate,” said organizer Valerie McLeod from West Coast Family Medical Clinic.  “Dr. Anton Rabin will talk on the benefits of gayly walking. Bring the whole family.”

Participants will each receive a pedometer  for signing up. Walkers and their dogs, family members or friends are asked to meet at the gazebo at 11:45 on May 5 for the walk which begins at noon.
