An informal group of trail enthusiasts is seeking to bring all community members interested in improving Nakusp & area’s trail system out to an upcoming meeting.
Caelen Larocque is one of several organizers of the meeting, which will take place on Tuesday, April 19 at 7 p.m. at Nakusp Secondary School.
Larocque explains they hope representatives from all stakeholder groups will attend the meeting. He lists skiers, hikers, bikers, snowmobilers, ATV riders and walkers — or just anyone with an interest in the subject.
The idea, he says, is to begin exploring ways to revitalize the local trail system. “Our trails are a bit lacking in part for signing and grooming,” he said. He hopes to get everyone on board so people can start working on ideas for improving the trails. “It’s a very grassroots thing,” Larocque said of the meeting. “It’s a pretty feel-good project … That’s the energy behind what we’re doing,” he added.
Some of the topics to be explored in the meeting include encouraging youth and seniors to sue the trails, promoting the trails for visitors, ideas for upkeep and maintenance, partnership ideas, making trails more accessible, expanding the trail system and improving signage.
Larocque describes the meeting as a ‘sharing session.’ “It is a starting point,” he said. “We want to put it out to our neighbours.”
The meeting takes place in Room 20 of the high school. Call Caelen at 250-265-6807 for info.
