JCI goes lawn bowling

JCI Vernon and BDO Canada have teamed up to bring an exciting networking event to Vernon

The long days of summer will seem a little shorter with Vernon’s latest lawn bowling tournament.

JCI Vernon and BDO Canada have teamed up to bring an exciting networking event to Vernon’s young professionals. The first Lawn Days of Summer tournament will take place over the span of three nights: Aug. 5, 12 and 19 at the Vernon Lawn Bowling Club in Polson Park.

BDO is a strong supporter of local businesses and was looking to bring something new to Vernon that would give young professionals a way to socialize and network.

“BDO is thrilled to join forces with JCI Vernon to bring this exciting new community event to young Vernon area professionals,” said Markus Schrott, BDO partner. “We’re confident this fresh and unique tournament will quickly become a much anticipated yearly event.”

Event co-chair Karla Ziegler was excited to be a part of the event.

“When BDO approached JCI with this idea, I was immediately in,” she said. “I strongly believe in helping our community and the power of networking. This event has both, and as a bonus we are helping the Vernon Lawn Bowling Club promote a fun, social game that’s in need of new players.”

Currently, they are looking for both participants and lane sponsors.

The Vernon Lawn Bowling Club came on board with the event quickly. They are always thrilled to share their sport with anyone who wants to get out on the pitch.

In Australia and New Zealand, it’s  common for professionals to leave work early and meet friends on the lawn. The proceeds from this event will be donated to the Upper Room Mission Society.

Entry to the tournament is $350 per team of four, with one to two spares. Spectators are welcomed to join in. There will be fun games and tournament prizes.

The Vernon Lawn Bowling Club is hoping the barefoot, casual style of this event will ignite fresh interest in the game. People of all ages and abilities can contact the club at 250-549-4100 to set up a game of their own.
