KidFest organizers looking for more help to make it happen

Annual family-friendly event set for this weekend in Qualicum Beach

District 69’s youngest are getting ready to take over Community Park for the twentieth annual Kidfest this summer in Parksville, but organizers need more help.

“For anyone who’s excited to see Kidfest coming back, we need help to make it happen,” said Cathy MacKenzie, recreation programmer for the Regional District of Nanaimo.

“The time commitment is not very big,” she said, pointing out they need more people on that day as well as help organizing now.

They are still securing headliners, but already have an impressive list of entertainment including Kidfest newcomers Craig McKee of  UnReality Magic and prop performer Jake West along with old favourites Tickles the Clown, Kumbana Marimba, Jangano and Gerry Barnum.

The entertainment is nonstop on the main stage and over 30 community groups will provide free interactive games, crafts and activities for children under 14.

The range of booths include the arts, culture, sports, environmental, religious and government groups providing information and activities and there will be wristbands to access a bouncy castle, hamster cage, octopus bouncer, double lane slide, dragon castle combo and Riptide hole in one game.

They make a point of inviting many new groups each year to provide regular attendees with some variety.

If you have a few hours to spare and would like to make a fun day even more fun for the  kids, MacKenzie said, contact them for more details.

As usual Kidfest will be proceeded by the Quality Foods’ Festival of Lights fireworks display on Saturday night and run in conjunction with the Children’s Sandcastle Competition on the beach. For more on those check www.qualityfoods.ca

Kidfest runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, call 250-951-2678 or check www.kidfest.ca for more information. Don’t forget a hat and sun block and please leave your pets at home.
