Kids’ Summer at TOSH offers an artistic outlet for children during the summer months.
The programs — which include acting, drawing, painting, pottery and origami — is for children aged six to 12.
All workshops are five full- or half-days.
Jay Doige, who has taught the acting workshop for more than 10 years, adapts children’s stories for the five-day workshop. Students will paint the backdrop, learn the story, act out character roles, create the props and perform the play on on the Friday. The July 4to 8 workshop will be based on the Prince Caspian book from The Chronicles of Narnia and the Aug. 1 to 5 workshop will be based on Roald Dahl’s The BFG.
Janice Erwin, a child art educator, will help the children design projects with a focus on fun and trying something new. In the mornings, the kids will explore drawing fundamentals and in the afternoons the kids will step into “Art Time Travel,” and discover artists and techniques from different regions and times while using paint and colour. The workshop is offered from July 11 to 15.
Lori Sorensen, a new teacher with TOSH, will be offering morning classes that explores drawing and painting and an afternoon class working in clay. The clay pieces will be glazed and fired in the end. The workshop is offered from July 18 to 22.
Sorensen will also be teaching a fairytale printmaking, painting and puppetry workshop with the children creating a puppet theatre and performing with their creations. The workshop is offered from Aug. 15 to 19.
Shino Yoneda will be teaching origami and exploring other Oriental art forms such as Chinese calligraphy and monotone drawings with Chinese brush and ink. The workshop is offered in the morning from Aug. 22 to 26.
Leigh Buchanan will be teaching a workshop on self-portraits and collages in the afternoons from Aug. 22 to 26.
Children can sign up for half days or full days. Full days include a supervised lunch outside in the playground. Morning classes run from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and afternoon classes run from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Workshops are $65 for half days or $150 for full days.
