A Campbell River youth was one of 28 from across B.C. to receive the prestigious Silver Level Duke of Edinburgh’s Award from the Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia at a ceremony in Government House in Victoria on Saturday.
Achievers hailed from diverse regions of B.C. from Coquitlam, to Maple Ridge, to Vancouver Island, and represent exceptional achievement and leadership. The achiever representing Campbell River was Hannah Taylor.
“Youth who achieve the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award demonstrate a commitment to leadership and self-discovery. Participating youth don’t work towards a cash prize, but rather the intrinsic value of challenging themselves by setting goals and then achieving them,” said Executive Director of the BC & Yukon Division, Sushil Saini. “We are grateful to Her Honour for presenting the Awards; her presence reinforces the tremendous achievement reached by these youth. These achievers truly are the leaders of today and tomorrow.”
To earn the Silver Award, achievers must work actively in the four sections of the Award program: service to community, development of a skill, physical recreation, and an adventurous journey in nature, working consistently over a minimum of one year. The Award is presented to the achiever in the form of a lapel pin and a certificate. Achievers also earn two grade 11 high school credits for completing their Silver Award.
