Growing up in Enderby when there was limited access to television, Shannon Peel says she relied on books and imagination for entertainment, and dreamed of one day becoming a writer.
So it is fitting that Peel, who currently lives in the Lower Mainland, is launching her debut novel at her hometown library Saturday at 11 a.m.
Titled Thirteen, the story revolves around young teenager Jack who suddenly finds his peaceful Canadian home being invaded by foreign soldiers. Peel says she was inspired to write after hearing about the trials of the Lost Boys of South Sudan. She hopes this will be the beginning of a series of novels aimed at readers aged 10 to 14.
After a career in the financial field, Peel decided to stay home and raise her two children until school age. In 2007 she returned to the workforce as a sales/marketing/ advertising professional.
Peel will be on hand with sales and signing of her book at the Enderby library, 514 Cliff Ave., Saturday; there will also be prizes and giveaways. This free event is open to all.
