Tim Horton’s Camp Day was a big success in Parksville on Wednesday.
“It’s awesome how the community came together and pulled this off,” said manager Jean Forrest.
All of the money from coffee sales go directly to the effort, which amounted to $3,053 this year and they raised another $3,675 from other efforts, Forrest reported.
The local store’s fundraising will send two “economically disadvantaged” local children to the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation camp in Kananaskis Country, Alberta.
The fundraising efforts where aided by notable locals who served coffee, like mayor Chris Burger and super-volunteer Joan LeMoine, worked the drive-through, like Paralympian Michelle Stilwell, and various other projects, including RCMP Corporal Jesse Foreman who sat in a small prison in the middle of the restaurant to raise money and awareness.
Forrest said there was practically a wait list of people wanting to help, including many employees who volunteered their time that day.
Local store owner Ed Mayne said it was good to see they were busy, but they could always use more, pointing out the company expects to raise around $10 million in this year’s national event and they are preparing to build their first B.C. camp, in the Mission area.
