Volunteers at the Lumby Community Thrift Store are keeping busy.
The store provides a range of items for sale, while giving back to the community.
“You probably are wondering just where our profit goes. We pay our rent and utilities as well as rent and utilities for our Lumby Food Bank,” said Georgie Hay, with the store.
“We also pledge $1,000 a month to Lumby Food Bank to cover the cost of food for those in need. The thrift store also supports breakfast/lunch programs for our three local schools. Recently, we were proud to pay accommodations and meals for our bylaw officer, Lee Elliott, to attend the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program. His newly acquired skills are a priceless, invaluable investment in our local youth.”
The store is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“We have special shopping days as Monday is always a grocery bag of clothes for $5. Wednesday is seniors day with 50 per cent off purchases for elders and the last Friday of each month is $10 for a garbage bag of clothes,” said Hay.
The thrift store is located between the Pagoda Inn Restaurant and the Lumby $Dollar$Dollar Store in the Arbor Park Mall on Vernon Street.
