Mabel fishing day hooks into fun

Clients from North Okanagan organizations enjoyed a day of fishing thanks to the Vernon Fish & Game Assoc. and the Lumby Wildlife Assoc.

And a’ fishing they went.

The Vernon Fish and Game Association and the Lumby Wildlife Association volunteers hosted a fishing day at Mabel Lake Provincial Park.

“We took 70-plus people along with their caregivers to the park for what turned out to be a wonderful event,” said Otto Andersen, Lumby Wildlife Association president.

“The clients from organizations such as Kindale, Canadian Mental Health Association and other care facilities had both fishing and socializing on their minds. The weatherman gave us a nice break from what looked like a rainy day, and the volunteers helped with the fishing, cooked hamburgers, hotdogs, brewed coffee and even served up ice cream and watermelon.

“Some fish were caught and bragged about and everyone went home happy. We are all looking forward to doing it again next year,” said Andersen.
