Leave No Trace is this year’s theme for MacKenzie Camp, located on Mabel Lake, 35 kilometres east of Enderby.
Registration is about to begin for 2012 sessions for children, youth and teens ages seven to 16.
“Our staff and volunteers will plan activities and outings, which will help each camp and camper understand that each of us has a special place and purpose within creation,” said Lorraine Powell, spokesperson.
“Each of us has a special purpose and a need to learn to respect and care for all that we have been given, leaving no trace, and walking gently on our environment. Leave no trace is a theme that has strong currency in today’s world, and as young people are immersed in the beautiful outdoors of our camp, this is an ideal opportunity for them to grasp an awareness of living sustainably.”
This year also has a new offering — a family camp.
Camp activities include a climbing wall, canoeing, swimming, kayaking, wide games, crafts, archery, low ropes course, nature and ecology, environmental hikes, vespers, stories, crazy songs, drama and much more.
Powell says everyone is accepted as unique, important and capable, regardless of race or religion.
“At MacKenzie Camp we strive to inspire campers through relationships, nature and spirituality to grow and have fun.”
The camp is accredited by both the B.C. Camping Association and United Church of Canada Camping.
