About 140 walkers joined together last Sunday to help make cystic fibrosis (CF) history.
Kim Wood, who has CF said “nothing would make me happier than to see the day I wouldn’t have to do hours of daily treatments and breathe Campbell River’s fresh air without coughing constantly.
“I would like to have some certainty about be around for longer.”
Krista Houston, event organizer, said she was pleased with the turnout at Sunday’s walk and how much was raised.
“I’m very happy to announce our walkers raised over $15,000 to help in the fight against cystic fibrosis – every cent will go to support high quality medical care and research into finding a cure for this devastating disease,” Houston said.
“It was great to see a remarkable turnout from our friends from the Comox Valley.”
Mayor Andy Adams thanked people for attending and remarked about the incredible support for the cystic fibrosis cause by the people in Campbell River.
He also thanked the Kinsmen for all the work they do both locally and nationally as a Cystic Fibrosis Canada partner for the last 32 years.
The Kinsmen were out in force, along with Dairy Queen owners Jim and Kristie Costain, cooking and serving the barbecue lunch.
M.C. John Milligan welcomed the walkers and thanked the sponsors with a special thanks to title sponsor Carstar; representatives from Carstar Campbell River – Rich’s Autobody – and Courtenay – TC Valley Collision – were on hand to help out.
Milligan also thanked sponsors Marine Harvest, Capacity Forest Management, Boston Pizza, Dairy Queen, Thrifty Foods, Quality Foods, Coca Cola, Old Dutch and Shoppers Drug Mart.
“This walk means everything to our family – our daughter Maysa who has CF is benefitting from the dollars raised at events like this,” Milligan said. Thank you.”
