Nikki and Chris Bunn’s truck made it through the field and into the championship but came up second after all the votes were tallied.

It was an unexpected end for the North Saanich father-daughter team, whose 1956 Chevy Apache pickup truck was entered into LMCtruck.com’s March Mayhem contest earlier this month. Set up like the U.S. college basketball March Madness playoffs, trucks that were restored with some of LMC Truck’s parts, were entered into the competition. Each one garnered votes online an the ones with the most votes advanced to the next round.

Nikki said she was surprised their bright yellow truck made it into the event and even more surprised that it made it all the way to the final.

In the end, she told the PNR, the truck they faced in the final received more votes. A 1977 Ford F250 restored by Nathan Shaw received 3,916 votes compared with 3,096 for Nikki’s truck.

All in all, she said it was a great experience to have her and her dad’s work recognized by so many people.

Nikki added they will have their truck in local car shows this spring and summer including Sidney’s Torque Masters Car Club’s Auto Extravaganza in August and people will get the chance to see the result of all their hard work.
