Over the past few months, a group of community workers in Mission have begun the process of bringing all of the non-profit organizations together under one virtual volunteer hub.
This project is called Volunteer Mission and its main goal is to strengthen the community and unite all volunteers to work towards a common goal.
The project began in the beginning of 2016, with an outlook to focus on collaboration in addressing the volunteer needs in the community.
It was through the inspiration of the Community Wellness Committee, MLA Simon Gibson, and a generous donation from the BC government that Volunteer Mission has come to life.
Volunteers joining up with Volunteer Mission will find the support needed to grow, improve and further individual personal and professional development.
This will be a chance for volunteers to be exposed to all of the opportunities available, including humane societies, seniors’ care, church groups and homeless shelters.
Volunteer Mission hopes to give citizens the opportunities to give back to the community and discover their hidden talents, as well as gain professional experience and knowledge of local resources.
Volunteering provides valuable community services so more money can be spent on local improvements. Community service and volunteerism are an investment in the community and the people who live in it.
This is an opportunity for all organizations to network with other local non-profits making a greater impact through program partnerships. Both organizations and volunteers will have access to interactive learning opportunities and an online volunteer centre.
Recently, another group has begun a similar endeavor, called Volunteer Fraser Valley. The Mission group has met with them and will continue to explore partnership as appropriate.
At present, the website, volunteermission.ca, is under construction and volunteer software is still in the process of being set up. The hope is to have everything ready to be presented to the public by the end of January.
