Parksville celebrates B.C. Day with parade in the park

A children’s parade through Rathtrevor Campground will kick off B.C. Day celebrations this Sunday, followed by activities in the provincial park both Sunday and Monday.

A children’s parade through Rathtrevor Campground will kick off B.C. Day celebrations this Sunday, followed by activities in the provincial park both Sunday and Monday.

RLC Park Services is putting on the event, which starts at 9:30 a.m. in the Rathtrevor Nature House. There will be pony rides, butter churning, old fashion picnic games, nature sketching, gold panning, a barbecue lunch and more.

Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the amphitheater, local organic farmer Dirk Becker will give a presentation on urban farming and the environment called An Inspirational Look at the Past, Present and Future of You and Your Food.

The fun continues Monday morning, August 1, with breakfast with Jerry the Moose, art activities, a team scavenger hunt, mini golf and guided forest and beach walks. Activities are free but donations are appreciated.

Activities run 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday.

The Rathtrevor Nature House is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily throughout August and has ice cream, pop, stuffed animals and books for sale to help support interpretive programs in the park.
