Two local photographers will be taking up some space at the McTavish Academy of Art to take children’s Christmas photos, all while raising money for a good cause.
“I love the McTavish Academy of Art because of what it’s bringing to the community anyways, so I approached them and we’re renting a room there,” said North Saanich photographer Janis Jean.
Jean and her friend and fellow photographer from Brentwood Bay, Nellie Quail will be running mini sessions, all Christmas themed.
In a 20-minute session, families will get five digital files for the price of $125, with all net proceeds going to the BC Children’s Hospital.
“A lot of them would obviously want to put them on Christmas cards because we’re going to get (the pictures) to them within a few days,” said Jean.
She said it’s a feel good event that everyone can benefit from.
“In every bit a whole community comes together…” she said.
Some of their friends have also volunteered to hand out hot mulled cider and candy canes. There will also be Christmas music.
BC Children’s has an office in Victoria and Jean said they will have buttons and information about them as well, spreading awareness to the community.
“I think there’s an awareness aspect of this as well, where perhaps some people on the Island don’t have the full understanding of the services that are available for children here that are at BC Children’s.”
The mini photo sessions will take place on Nov. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at McTavish Academy of Art.
