As part of the Purolator Tackle Hunger program, Purolator employees, BC Lions fans and local food bank volunteers teamed up in Vancouver to raise the equivalent of 20,735 pounds of food for Greater Vancouver Food Bank and Surrey Food Bank.
Now in its 14th season, the Purolator Tackle Hunger program raises awareness, food and funds for local food banks across Canada.
At one game in every Canadian Football League city, Purolator organizes a Game Day Food Drive and encourages fans to drop off non-perishable food items or a cash donation in support of food banks in their communities.
Last year, Purolator Tackle Hunger raised the equivalent of 1.4 million pounds of food. This year, the program has set a goal to help raise more than 1.45 million pounds of food for Canadian food banks.
Since 2003, B.C. football fans have helped raise 306,763 pounds of food for families in need.
