Dancing, drumming, music and foods from around the world will all be on the menu Saturday as Vernon Interfaith Bridging hosts a Summer Solstice Truth and Reconciliation potluck dinner.
“We are fulfilling our commitment to host events at solstice and equinox in the North Okanagan,” said Mollie Bono, with the Vernon Interfaith Bridging committee. “We plan to share foods from different cultures during the potluck dinner.”
Bono said participants will learn about the meaning behind pow wow regalia and other traditional clothing worn by local First Nations, and pow wow dancing, games, drumming and flute music will be showcased.
“As usual, we will share ideas, history, songs and laughter,” she said. “Everyone is welcome — our events are intergenerational and culturally sensitive.”
The celebration takes place Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Head of the Lake Hall, and everyone is welcome to share in this evening of story, song, dance, drumming and door prizes. Please bring a potluck item to share, either a main course or a dessert.
Head of the Lake Hall is at 118 Head of the Lake Rd., off Highway 97, near Spallumcheen Golf and Country Club. This event is free, but donations are welcome to offset rental of the hall. For more information, please call Bono at 250-309-5856 or Nola Dibski at 250-306 2972.
