Everyone has a different vision of what a garden should be.
Joe Liddell obviously liked rocks, roses and climbing plants.
Not long after this photo was taken in 1915, he enlisted in the armed forces and was sent overseas.
A true gardener, Joe’s August 17, 1917 entry in his diary during his time in France reads “I do not remember having seen a wild rose this summer but upon this day—rose bushes!”
If you appreciate gardens as much as Joe did, be sure to take in the Summerland Garden Tour this Saturday, sponsored by Quest Society.
Tickets are available at the Beanery or the Chamber office on the highway. More info at questsociety.shawwebspace.ca
