High tea with royalty?
Come and enjoy the fun with local volunteers and look-alikes in the roles of Queen Mother, Prince Philip, other family members, and Commonwealth High Commissioners on Saturday, June 2. This entertaining celebration of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II is being hosted by Lifetime Learning at the Cedarbrooke Chateau with master of ceremonies Neville Cox leading the fun.
The opening procession includes a piper, Air Cadets trooping in the flags, local dignitaries, and, of course, members of the “Royal family.” Guests are encouraged to dress up in their royal fashions, represent a Commonwealth country, or simply wear hat and gloves, and have a photo taken with their favourite Royal.
Archival footage of the actual coronation in 1952 was broadcast on CBC, and guests will share stories and memories of the monarchy. Of course, a truly British high tea will be served.
Throughout 2012, The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will be celebrated around the world, particularly in the 54 Commonwealth countries which make up almost a quarter of the population of the world. Other groups in Mission including the Farmers’ Market will join the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, with special activities and events.
