Principal Nicholson Elementary

‘Tis the season for all kinds of special events.

Bridget Dauphney from the Canadian Avalanche Centre in came to do presentations with each class about avalanche and winter safety.  This is such an important program for our students to understand the risks and know what to do in emergencies.  It helps equip them to enjoy our beautiful winters safely.

Christmas festivities began on November 30 with our Annual Christmas Card and Letter Writing Day.  We invited other family members to join us.  Many Christmas messages were sent to friends and relatives, near and far.

All classes have been doing Christmas crafts and jewelry making and the results are impressive. Our reading buddies took a break to paint some wooden ornaments together, provided by the PAC.  All students also contributed to our ‘Christmas Wishes’ bulletin board, where wishes for others were expressed on snowflakes, stars, Christmas ornaments and a string of lights.  Some examples:

“I wish everyone has a good Christmas with their family.” (Stephan, Kdgn.)

“I wish it would rain food in Africa.” (Walker, Gr. 5)

“I wish my sister gets a puppy.” (Cayden, Gr. 1)

“I wish that all children would be safe and feel safe.” (Marcus, Gr. 5)

“I wish everyone has fun in the snow.” (Jack, Gr. 2)

“My hope is for everyone to be happy.” (Makenna, Gr. 6)

“I hope all your wishes come true.” (Zach, Gr. 6)

Two students enjoyed a trip on the CP Holiday Train from Golden to Revelstoke, thanks to some tickets provided by CP.  Nina Kellenberger, Gr. 7, and Grace Higginson, Kindergarten, took their families along for the trip.

We had our school Christmas Sharing Assembly on Tuesday, December 18 at 1:30 p.m.  Students and staff put a lot of time into that, plus our PAC did some baking and raffle baskets for fundraising at the event, too.  Thanks to Mrs. Runa Bjarnason-Wilson and Mrs. Maggie Calladine for their organization, co-ordination and hard work on this performance.

Today the whole school was treated to a Christmas movie at Kicking Horse Movie Theatre, thanks to Stuart and Trish Angus!  Refreshments were paid for by our generous PAC elves.

Rumour has it that there will be a special visitor to Nicholson School tomorrow morning.  Watch for incoming sleighs overhead!

Keep your eyes open for the Nicholson School Cookbook, available for sale around town at places like Southside Grocery, Parson Store and Bacchus Books.  It makes a great Christmas gift for someone and helps out the school too!

A very Merry Christmas and a safe, healthy holiday season from the staff and students at Nicholson!
