For more than a decade, Staples Canada has been helping to support Special Olympics through the Give a Toonie, Share a Dream campaign, raising awareness and funds for the charity.
The campaign runs until May 25, and local Special Olympics athletes and volunteers will be on hand to greet customers with a friendly smile.
“We encourage customers to visit our store, make a donation and share a dream, helping our local Special Olympic athletes achieve their full potential,” said Jamie Wattie, with the Staples store in Vernon. “We are proud to be able to help collect much-needed funds and spreading the word about this great organization.”
Since 1980, Special Olympics BC, a registered charitable organization, has provided high-quality sports programs and competitions to meet the needs and interests of individuals with intellectual disabilities, enriching lives and celebrating personal achievement through positive sports experiences. In the Vernon area, Special Olympics supports more than 150 athletes who participate in 14 summer and winter sports.
“We are pleased that our local Staples store has been supporting our charity for such a long time and show that they believe in the power of sports to transform lives,” said Noelle Typusiak, a member of the SOBC-Vernon board. “Funds are desperately needed to support the cost of running our programs and we are also always in need of volunteer coaches and administrators. Experience is an asset, but not required — just bring a winning attitude.”
