Summerland Dance Club begins season

For those who enjoy dancing to the music of an earlier era, monthly dances have resumed.

For those who enjoy dancing to the music of an earlier era, monthly dances have resumed.

The Summerland Dance Club has arranged the dances for the past 60 years.

The first of this season’s dances was held on Saturday at the Rosedale Room in the Summerland Legion. Dances will continue on Nov. 9, Dec. 7, Jan. 11, Feb. 8, March 8, April 12 and May 10.

George Sutton, a member of the Summerland Dance Club, said the styles of the waltz, fox trot, jive and polka dances and the live music are from an earlier era.

“This is going back in time,” he said.

Public dances were held regularly after World War II. At its peak, the dance club had 40 members, but today there are 16 couples, Sutton said.

He added that the club is intended for couples, not for single people.

Those interested in joining are asked contact Anne Ling at 250-494-7168 or Ron Hack at 250-486-6858.
