Take part in the Selfie Challenge for Family Literacy

Decoda Literacy Solutions has launched a province-wide fundraising and awareness campaign

Decoda Literacy Solutions has launched a province-wide fundraising and awareness campaign to celebrate Family Literacy Week (Jan. 24-31), which coincides with National Family Literacy Day (January 27).

The campaign raises awareness of the importance of engaging in family learning and the impact it has on the child, parent/caregiver and society as a whole. The campaign also raises funds to support family literacy programs in British Columbia.

Share Your Selfie Challenge: Decoda is running an online contest called Share Your Selfie. The contest encourages families to participate in a family literacy activity, take a selfie, and post it to Twitter or our Facebook page and then CHALLENGE someone online to do the same. You could win a prize, and Decoda is hoping to get some very famous “Selfies.”.

Literacy is important to all British Columbians, especially children. When children are engaged with literacy at an early age, research shows overwhelmingly that there is a direct impact on the child, the parent and society as a whole.

The research is overwhelming, when children get an early start in the home, they are better prepared to enter school; they do better on reading achievement tests; they are more likely to pursue higher education; they find higher-paying jobs; they lead healthier lives; and they are more likely to vote, volunteer and give back to their communi
