Terry Fox Run organizers found

Two Abbotsford residents have volunteered to help with this year's event

Two local residents have stepped up to help organize this year’s Terry Fox Run.

Grant Mottershead and Barbara Bremner have volunteered for the event, which didn’t take place in 2013 because there was no run organizer. It had previously happened every year in Abbotsford since 1985.

The 2014 run, scheduled for Sept. 14, is the 34th annual, and it raises money for cancer research. In 1980, with one leg having been amputated due to cancer, Fox embarked on a cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Although the spread of his cancer eventually forced him to end his quest after 143 days and 5,373 kilometres, and ultimately cost him his life, his efforts resulted in a lasting, worldwide legacy.
