The Monashee Toastmasters in Lumby are switching from noon-hour meetings to evening meetings starting March 11.

“This is for a six-month trial period and is being done in hopes of increasing our membership and revitalizing our club,” said Mike Takahashi, president of Monashee Toastmasters.

To that end, the club is holding an open house on March 11 at the Blue Ox Pub (1643 Vernon St/Hwy 6) meeting room in Lumby. A meet and greet is 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

“The meeting will be similar to one that is held at a typical Toastmasters meeting (including a speech) so guests can have a feel for what the Toastmasters are all about and how the club can help individuals improve their speaking skills,” said Takahashi.

Toastmasters International is “where leaders are made” and is a worldwide organization that has clubs throughout the world including numerous ones in B.C. Locally there are three Toastmaster clubs in Vernon as well as a club in Armstrong and Enderby.

“The confidence and skills gained in Toastmasters enable members to become better leaders and communicators in all aspects of their lives.

“When people think of the Toastmasters they think public speaking; but there is a lot more to it than that. Any situation where communication skills are essential, the Toastmasters can help. The Monashee Toastmasters are supportive of each other’s learning curves and are always looking for new members with fresh enthusiasm.

“You don’t have to be a resident of Lumby to join. Come and see what we are all about.”
