I had an opportunity to put my untapped glass blowing skills to work recently in Cherie Hemmingsen’s hot shop.
Hemmingsen along with visiting artist Cheryl Dunsmore who will be spending the summer at the studio patiently guided me.
Several dips into the oven and many strategic pulls later, my colourful flower napkin ring was perfect. It was then placed in the Annealing Oven – the process of gradual cooling of the outside and the inside of the glass to assure that the piece won’t cool to fast causing cracks or breaks.
The public is invited to come create at the studio. You must be at least 12 years old and wear only cotton clothes. If you have a group of 3 or 4 you can call to book an appointment at 250-285-2809.
