UBC offers yoga retreats, engineering and sports camps

Activities to suit all ages on Okanagan campus this summer.

Need something to do this summer? UBC summer camps this year include revitalizing yoga retreats for adults, and exciting sports camps and engineering camps for youth.

Yoga retreats

A new offering lets you revitalize your mental and spiritual self at one of the upcoming yoga retreats hosted by UBC’s Okanagan campus.

From June 6 to 8, take part in a two-day getaway Shanti Yoga Retreat for Relaxation and Stress Relief. During this retreat, participants will engage in yoga practices specifically tailored to dissolve stress. They will also gain essential strategies to befriend stress and find ease in daily life through enlightening presentations by forefront researchers and change-makers in the areas of stress, mindfulness and meditation.

“Set in the quiet comfort of UBC’s scenic Okanagan campus, the Shanti weekend retreat offers a uniquely relaxing opportunity to better understand your relationship to stress and start anew,” says Heather Corliss, Campus Recreation fitness coordinator. “You will leave this retreat refreshed and confident about your ability to deal with life stresses.”

The Shanti Yoga retreat includes four yoga sessions for all levels, three talks with stress and mindfulness UBC experts, two healthy lunches, and a restorative yoga session with hot stones.

A five-day Sthira-Sukham Yoga Retreat for Healthy Posture and Core Strength will be held July 13 to 18 at UBC Okanagan. This getaway is for those looking to improve posture, decrease back pain and discomfort, and increase knowledge and development of core strength. It includes eight yoga and meditation sessions, healthy lunches, restorative yoga with hot stones, silent hiking and yoga, biking, paddleboard yoga, an optional wine tour in Lake Country, and experiential lectures on topics ranging from healthy posture and core strength to stress and soft tissue care.

“Participants can expect to leave feeling taller, energized, and equipped with a better understanding of strategies to keep improving their own posture and core strength,” says Corliss.

Both the weekend and week-long yoga retreats will be taught by Myriam Webb, registered yoga teacher. Webb’s practice promotes self-understanding, intuition, and transformation from the inside out through mindful movement and breath work.
