The Brooklyn Creek Watershed Society and the Town of Comox are seeking volunteers on September 6th to help improve fish habitat in Brooklyn Creek in the area of Salish Park.
Brooklyn Creek Watershed Society is a volunteer-based organization dedicated to the protection and habitat enhancement of Brooklyn Creek and the watershed.
This year, the organization is working with Current Environmental and the Town of Comox to rehabilitate existing riffles and pools in the stream at Salish Park originally constructed in 2005.
The work this summer will stabilize these areas and replace gravel that was lost due to flood flows in past winter months. The project will benefit both coho salmon and cutthroat trout that inhabit the creek by improving both summer and overwintering habitat.
Anyone interested in helping out is asked to contact Larry at 250-339-9159 or email lwjefferson@shaw.ca.
Volunteers will meet at the Somenos Park entrance of Salish Park on September 6th at 9:30 a.m. and should wear boots, gloves and clothing that will withstand some abuse.
The day will conclude with a volunteer appreciation event at noon at the park.
