Patty Tawiyaka of Learning Adventures may also be known as the worm lady.
Occasionally Tawiyaka holds workshops on how to construct a worm bin to build soil and harvest the worm castings for your garden.
There are excellent websites available for information, but people are welcome to call me, if they like, says Tawiyaka. She adds www.allthingsorganic.com is a site to go to.
The worm bins at the Eliza Archie Memorial School and Forest Grove Elementary School survived the winter, Tawiyaka says, adding the one that she kept in her home also survived.
This Earth Day its not only about the worms, she notes, it’s above the ground, too.
“It’s about these streets. Now that the snow is melting, you can see all the garbage that people have thrown about.”
Tawiyaka is dedicating this Earth Day to cleaning the walkways of 100 Mile House. Living behind the Lodge, Tawiyaka walks everywhere in town, and says that from now on, she is taking garbage bags with her.
“It would be great if people want to help out; not only is it good exercise, but it can also be a social get together. Even if people just clean up in front of their own homes and businesses, it would make a difference.”
